Sibiu – modernity with a German touch
Sibiu's Economy
The city of Sibiu is one of the most prosperous in Romania, its main purpose being to attract foreign investors who would certainly find Sibiu interesting as it has an international airport and it has access to two main European roads. As for the railway transport the City is in connection with major cities around the country: Cluj-Napoca, Brasov, Craiova, Timisoara and Bucharest. The key economic branches are the auto supply industry, textiles and clothing, mechanical engineering, textile industry, food items, trade and craftsmanship, logistics and packaging. Lately, the electronic industry started to have a leading role in the sector. It is nevertheless interesting to know that Sibiu holds the second largest Stock Exchange after the one in Bucharest.
International knowledge and culture
During 2007, Sibiu together with Luxembourg were designated European Capitals of Culture attracting countless events at the international level. These events brought to Sibiu an important number of tourists from abroad as well as from all other regions in the country. Along time Sibiu has become the residence of many important cultural events among we should mention the ArtMania rock festival, the Jazz Festival, the “Astra” film Festival or the Transylvania Calling Festival. The program was developed by the European Commission having as main goal to “bring together the people of Europe”, make them feel part of the same community.
Sibiu has everything. It has its past, well remembered in all history books, it has its present which is very well developed in the international arena, and will certainly have its future, a glorious one for sure bringing a lot of pride for the Romanian people. If you are ever in Romania for vacation be sure that the city of Sibiu and its surroundings are marked on your traveling guide. This trip to medieval times will surely make you remember Sibiu as something special that you have never seen before.
