Sighisoara
THE HOUSE OF VLAD DRACUL AND THE HOUSE WITH THE STAG
Those of you passionate about the legend of Dracula probably already know that Sighisoara is the birthplace of Vlad Tepes (“Vlad the Impaler”). You will have the pleasant surprise of finding the House of Vlad Dracul here, the place where Vlad Tepes’s father lived for a period of time. Nowadays, the house hosts a restaurant and a weapons museum. Although of small proportions, the museum can provide a fascinating visit to those fascinated by war techniques and tools. Another landmark of Sighisoara is the House with the Stag. The place gets its name from the stag head positioned on the construction. You can presently find a hostel, a restaurant and a Romanian-German cultural center in the building.
SIGHISOARA MEDIEVAL FESTIVAL
Romanian authorities are aware of the immeasurable value of the area and are constantly encouraging the local tourism. The annual "Medieval Arts and Theatre Festival" is part of this initiative. If you get the opportunity of being around Sighisoara in the summer, do not miss the chance of visiting the town during this medieval festival. The streets will be simply filled with colorful crowds of tourists who come here for this particular event. While walking around the citadel, you will get the chance of watching plays interpreted by various actors dressed in medieval clothes. Also, you will be entertained by a series of concerts featuring some of the most appreciated artists who will provide the perfect atmosphere so that you can enjoy yourself over a glass of good beer.
Sighisoara is also part of the “heart” of Romania. It is spectacular, magical and full of surprises. Its medieval aura is the remaining proof of a time that is long gone. Still, it is comforting to know that if you want to take a walk on the narrow streets of medieval history, there still exists the ideal place where you can do just that.
