Brasov – Part of the “Heart” of Romania
Memorial Houses
Those passionate about Romanian culture can take a look around the memorial houses from Brasov. Casa Muresenilor (“House of the Muresianu family”) is one of such residences. This family had a crucial contribution to Romanian culture by running one of the most important publications of their time (second half of the 19th century). The place currently hosts a museum with marvelous pieces of furniture, sculpture, painting and documents which are a remainder of the magic of the epoch in which the Muresianu family lived. Other memorial houses in Brasov are Casa Negustorilor (Tradesmen House) Casa Stefan Baciu, Casa Muzicii (House of music), Casa Honterus or Casa Ilie Birt, which are dedicated to the life of various famous figures the city prides itself with.
The Brasov fortress and towers
Those hooked to constantly venturing into the past can take a trip to Brasov Fortress which was built in the 1400s. Its fortifications and constant renovation helped it survive till the present day. However, its current use is in no way related to the original one, as it presently hosts a traditional Romanian restaurant. History explorers can also go to Ecaterina's Gate which is one of the original entrances in Brasov. The gate is between the Blacksmiths’ Bastion and the Weavers’ Bastion, both part of the 7 watchtowers originally constructed around the city. The latter is the best preserved and has been turned into a museum. It is also worth going to the Black and White towers which are on the “Behind the Walls Alley”. It is called this way because after building the first wall of defense of Brasov, a second one was built and a space remained between the two.
Parks and Green Spaces
When you want to spend a relaxing day in an isolated environment you can try taking a stroll in the parks located in the city. Lumea Copiilor (Children’s World), Titulescu Park, Tractor Park, Roses Park are some of the options you can choose from.
Brasov fun stuff
You can have a blast with your friends by playing bowling, paint ball, mini-golf, tennis, going ice skating and, of course, skiing. Still, if you are less conventional and have nerves of steel, skateboarding and paragliding are just the things for you to do around here.
