Bucharest – an european capital

THE MUSEUMS OF BUCHAREST

There are over 40 museums in Bucharest, some with specific styles of modern history and art, others with a mix of culture and heritage. One of the most important museums is the National History Museum of Romania (1900), which exhibits pieces from Neolithic times, gold sculpture and other objects of art.

The Art Museum has among its many collections works of some famous international artists – Veneziano, Rembrandt, El Greco, Rubens, Renoir and Cézanne – and famous Romanians – Theodor Aman, Nicolae Grigorescu, Ion Andreescu, Ion Luchian, Constantin Brancusi, Ion Tuculescu, Corneliu Baba, Sabin Balasa, Ion Jalea etc.

The Village Museum is spread over 17 hectares, on the shore of Lake Herastrau. Here you can see peasant houses from all over Romania’s regions, complete with furnishings, utensils, and other housewares of their time. From time to time, they stage exhibitions and fairs with
a strong bias toward the local folklore.

Other museums to visit are: The Cotroceni National Museum, the Romanian Peasant Museum, the National Military Museum, the Geology Museum, the “Grigore Antipa” Natural History Museum, the Technique Museum, the National Theatre Museum etc.

PARKS AND GREEN SPACES

Statue in HerastrauThe parks in Bucharest protect many old traditions and, today, there are 15 parks and public gardens in the City. Situated in the center of the city, the Cismigiu Park is the most famous park, having being built in 1850. Other places for preferred walks are: Herastrau Park, Carol Park, Parcul Tineretului, the Botanical Garden (with over 10 000 species of plants), National, Titan, Kiseleff, tei etc.
In the north part of Bucharest you will find the Zoological Garden, with different species
of animals, birds, reptiles etc. brought from different parts of the world.
