Vatra Dornei

You're getting closer to Vatra DorneiOne of Romania’s most beautiful ski resort is called Vatra Dornei and it’s situated in the north of the country. The most beautiful part in visiting this resort is not only that you are in the mountains and thus of the beautiful landscape, but there are also other places you can visit like the beautiful monasteries from the north of Moldavia.
For those who are not interested in visiting and want to go only for skiing or for the mountain, the resort has 2 ski slopes, one is the longest in Romania (3 Km) – Partia Telescaun, and one has 800 m in length – Partia Dealu Negru.

The town has two major holidays – Serbarile Zapezii (December 23 – March 11), and the Popular Traditions Festival — Festivalul de datini si obiceiuri populare (29-31 December). Close to Vatra Dornei you will find many famous monasteries which you definitely have to visit! Built in 1530, the Humor monastery is one of the renowned churches with exterior frescoes; the most valuable painted church of Bucovina. is called Voronet, very famous for the unique blue painted on the outside. It is also called the "Sixteen Chapel of the East" and it has an unusual freshness due to the famous "Blue of Voronet". Moldovita – one of the gems of the old Moldavian art built in 1532, remarkable for its valuable exterior frescoes. Sucevita monastery was built between1582-1584 and is also covered with frescoes. Putna is a legendary and very beautiful monastery, built by Stefan cel Mare (Stephan the Great), between 1466-1469. In this monastery rests the tomb of the sanctified ruler. One may also see here an important museum of medieval art, and nearby, just down the road from the Putna monastery, there is an ancient wooden church that should not be missed. It's within the graveyard that you pass.
