The Legend of the Olt and Mures Rivers

The Argument

But no sooner had they left the castle that they started to argue. The lad that grew up in the western tower took the western path while his brother took the eastern way. The brother that took the western path was called Mures and he was a rather calm and withdrawn person while his brother’s name was Olt and he was an impetuous lad and had a quick temper. Olt run away fast to the valley while Mures head rather cautiously to the west. But after a while Mures felt he missed his brother and turned back towards east to search for him. But he could not find Olt and lost even his previous way.

Unfortunately the queen had seen the two brothers split apart from the very beginning as she stood up on the fortress walls to watch their way. She run down to the valley to reach her boys and bring them together but they were already far away and young and fast, especially Olt and were going into two opposite directions. The queen could not catch up with them and rivers of tears fell from her eyes. As she was crying in pain after her lost sons they were stroke by a spell and transformed into two rivers: Mures and Olt. The paths they took down to the valley became their river beds.
