Boogie – One Movie, an Universal Story
The “Boogie” Story
Boogie is Bogdan Ciocazanu, a thirty-something year old man who feels his life is slipping through his fingers. He spends his time trying to manage both his business and family life, but is still left with the sensation that everything he does has a huge cost of opportunity.
In an attempt to spend more time with his family, Boogie takes his wife, Smaranda, and his 3 year old son to Neptun, a well-known resort on the Romanian seaside. It is common for the seaside to be taken over by students eager to party on the 1st of May, but it is not this world we are introduced to in this movie. The times when Boogie (and his generation) used to party until morning, losing track of drinks and uncaring of the world are now over.
A Journey Back to the “Good Ol’ Days”
Still, Boogie gets the chance to catch a glimpse of what used to be his world. While at the seaside, he has an unexpected encounter with his high school colleagues, Penescu and Iordache. Unlike Boogie, his friends are more reluctant to give up their teenage lifestyle and manage to also engage the main character in a one-night journey back in time. The last one.
After an evening spent reminiscing over drinks, Boogie decides to put his family obligations on hold and stays out with his friends, pretending that their lives are still like they used to, having no care in this world, laughing and cursing at will.
But this is nothing but a passing illusion. Boogie director, Radu Muntean, best describes their effort to relive their “glory days”: “Their attempt to win back their youth in one night is like that of an old rock band which, although broken up, reunites after many years for one last concert. And although the concert has some of the good old days charm, the people no longer feel the same on stage, the drummer fails to keep up the pace and the lead singer has gone bald and loses his voice during the second song.”(www.boogiemovie.com)
