Transylvania Film Festival – Celebrating Film for 8 Years

The Transylvania Film Festival in Romania has become a well-known event among the film industry ‘”actors” and it is something to look forward to by all the cinema fans across Romania and abroad. This year hosts the festival’s 8th edition which starts on the 29th of May, entertaining its guests with films, concerts, parties and professional debates until the 7th of June.

The Transylvania Film Festival, or TIFF, has made a name for itself as one of the most memorable events in the industry and so far rumor has it that this year’s edition will not betray our expectations. Over 200 titles, 19 sections and about 500 guests are expected to take part in the manifestation and mesmerize the audience so as to satisfy its appetite for cinema just enough to last them for a whole year, until the next edition takes place.

The projections will be hosted by the traditional sceneries of the festival: Arta, Republica and Victoria cinemas. Also hosting the films will be the City Cinema from Iulius Mall and Taverna terrace/restaurant. Outdoor projections will be taking place in the yard of the Babes Bolyai University, which will also use its Auditorium hall for the festival’s manifestations.

The “classical” sections of the festival include Competition, Focus, No limit, Supernova, Shadows and 3 x 3. In addition, part of the festival will be reserved to the “national days”, such as the Hungarian Film Day, Rroma Day and the Romanian Film Day. The event will also have a section dedicated to documentaries and movies focusing on memorable political figures from across the world.

As always, the festival holds a lot of surprises for the audience. For example, this year a lot of the organizers’ focus went to the young public, who needs to be encouraged and guided in understanding and thus cherishing the art of cinema. This is the main reason behind the launch of the TIFF Educational Program, an innovative project targeting 6 – 14 year-old youngsters on one hand, but also teachers from various schools and high schools in Cluj on the other. Each projection they will be exposed to will be accompanied by instructive exercises and debates.
