Curtisoara Museum – a Cradle of Spirituality

The past

House in the Village Museum from Curtisoara The ethnographic museum from Curtisoara was arranged between the years 1968-1975. It contains ethnographic objects, pieces of bucolic furniture and also traditional costumes from Gorj.

It is placed on a ground filled with picturesque and harmony, in the vicinity of the Cula Cornoiu also known as Cula de la Curtiosara and more exactly very close to Targu-Jiu.  The museum is outdoors and owns an impressive thesaurus of traditional civilization and culture from these parts of our country.

Built in the forth decade of the XVIII century the "Cula" from Curtisoara represents by itself a valuable architectural monument. The building has downstairs a cellar, where once there was also a fountain used in time of siege, a storehouse, an outhouse and two floors. At the façade of the last floor there is a porch with impressively beautiful columns and arcades. The downstairs door being the only entrance is made by solid oak wood, and the communication between the floors is made by an inner stair.

The rooms shelter an awesome original exhibition. You most surely will notice the porch columns, the knitting needles, the small wood objects, the big pots, and the pottery made in the traditional centers in the land of Gorj, the handmade fabrics for the interior, handmade in the last centuries and also the beautiful traditional costumes specific for the part of the country.

All the monuments of bucolic architecture displayed in this outdoors ethnographic museum-house, house shed, manor shed, manor, cellar, fountain with watershed, mill – all are authentic. The houses come from different places of the county: ?icleni, Dobri?a, B?l?ne?ti, G?le?oaia, Olari, C?rbune?ti Sat, Romane?ti, Tismana, Cârligei, Raco?i, Glodeni, Pârâu-Pripor, Baia de Fier, Bumbe?ti-Jiu, Br?diceni. Most of them are made of girders.
