Reaping Dreams with Paula Seling
More collaborations and awards came in the years that followed. In 2001, Paula received the Award for the best female singer within the Awards of the Romanian Music Industries. But what she considers to be one of the peaks of her career is winning the Golden Stag Festival in 2002, one the biggest Romanian musical events, with over 40 years of tradition. She particularly takes pride in this achievement, because it is a festival that she grew up watching together with her parents, analyzing the performances and placing bets on the participants, without even daring to seriously imagine that one day she too would be among its winners.
Paula Seling’s discography comprises 11 records, including BEST OFs and Christmas albums. Her songs cover themes such as love, faith, destiny, believing in oneself, but some of them also refer to the darker side of the world. She seems to relate to each one of her songs and it is clear that most of them were born out of her own experiences and interpretations.
The most recent material signed by Paula Seling was launched on June 10th, 2009, at the Silver Church Club in Bucharest. The album is called “Culeg vise” in Romanian, which translates into „I reap dreams”. The record contains 17 songs, which entirely belong to Paula: text, composition, orchestration and production, and was recorded at the Unicorn Records Studio, which actually belongs to Paula and her husband of 4 years, Radu Bucura. The album also has a twin version in English, called “Believe”. The first single off this album is “Ochii tai” (Your eyes) and the video for this song was filmed entirely with a photo camera.
Paula Seling found her salvation in music. Still, there are a lot of people who were not so lucky so as to find their meaning, a way to express themselves. They should keep trying and, while at it, maybe they should also try listening to Paula Seling. They may find it quite inspiring.
